2 new features were set to be added to Call of Duty: Warzone with the Season 1 Reloaded update on January 17, but have now been cancelled due to player feedback on social media.
Those familiar with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II's DMZ mode will remember Exfils and the Weapon Case. Exfils allowed you to leave the match at the time and place that suited you but bought great danger and attention, adding a real sense of risk vs. reward. Weapons Cases added the same level of threat as once picked up, you could be tracked by enemy players until you made it out alive.
Both of these features were set to be added to Warzone in Season 1 Reloaded but have now been cancelled and are being saved for a "dedicated upcoming mode" according to Raven Software, the Studio supporting Warzone this year.
Covert Exfils would have allowed up to 5 teams to purchase an Exfil helicopter to pick them up and take them out of the game early. This would not count as a win but it wouldn't count as a lose either, it simply allows players to get out of the match early without damaging stats.
Community backlash for both features was fierce on social media, particularly X/Twitter. So much so that Raven and Call of Duty have removed the features from the upcoming Season 1 Reloaded.
Personally, we are disappointed that these features have been cancelled before players even got to test them out. It sets a dangerous precedence when the minority on social media has such a strong handle over what does and does not get added to Warzone.
