Xbox conducted a top secret interview with Treyarch's Zombies Associate Design Director, Kevin Drew, following the Xbox Games Showcase and Black Ops 6 Direct. This interview, recently released to the public, provides further insight into what to anticipate from Black Ops 6 Zombies later this year.
Some details about the forthcoming Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 have been revealed, and Kevin Drew, the lead designer of the mode, shared additional intriguing insights in his exclusive interview with Xbox, the new proprietors of Call of Duty.
We have summarized Kevin's comments on Black Ops 6, but the full interview is also available for viewing. The interview, lasting approximately 59 minutes, features discussions from other game developers on their forthcoming titles, including Gears of War: E-Day.
"Best iteration of Zombies ever"
Improves and expands on Cold War Zombies
CW Zombies development impacted by the Pandemic
Black Ops 6 Zombies will have a set crew
Mob of the Dead red eyes were added accidentally
BO6 Zombies will be new-player-friendly
Omnimovement offers a new way to play Zombies
Doctor Edward Richtofen will return
Throwback features like Gobblegums will return
Intriguingly, an 11-year-old mystery was resolved during the interview. Kevin revealed that the choice to give zombies red eyes in the development of Black Ops 2's Mob of the Dead map was purely accidental and random. Contrary to widespread assumptions, this detail had no narrative significance, even though blue and yellow eyes had previously signified control over the zombies in the storyline by Richtofen or Samantha.
Black Ops 6 Zombies is set to continue the Cold War storyline and enhance the features of its predecessor. However, there has been no announcement regarding the inclusion of Outbreak or an Extraction-style mode akin to Modern Warfare Zombies, potentially disappointing fans who have found these modes highly popular.
More details about the eagerly awaited Zombies mode for Black Ops 6 are anticipated at this year's Call of Duty: NEXT on August 28, where the full reveal of the game's Multiplayer is set to occur, along with potential updates on Warzone.
