The Division Heartland has been CANCELLED - Development Studio now to support XDefiant instead

The Division Heartland has been cancelled

Ubisoft has announced that it has cancelled the upcoming extraction shooter The Division Heartland. The disappointing news comes nearly three years after development began on the Division universe spin-off.

“After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately,”

A spokesperson for the company has officially stated that Ubisoft has made the tough call to halt development for the highly anticipated Heartland game, with immediate effect.

They went on to say that the development teams at Red Storm Entertainment, who were previously working on Heartland, would now swap their attention to other IP's in the Ubisoft catalogue, such as Rainbow Six and the upcoming first-person-shooter, XDefiant.

Staff were informed on Wednesday, May 15, that the game would be cancelled effectively immediately ahead of Ubisoft's earnings call. In this call, it is understood that the decision comes as part of the company's increased selectivity of its investments.

It was reported earlier in the month that development was still on-going, although the game had drastically changed direction since we last heard about it in 2023. It seems that Heartland got close to releasing as there had been multiple betas for players and was even rated by the Taiwanese ratings board.

One factor for the cancellation is that throughout all of the aforementioned playtests by players, players reported that the game simply didn't "resonate" with them.

Red Storm Entertainment will now shift their attention to the pre-existing Rainbow Six: Siege and the soon-to-be released XDefiant.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise as news about the game had been very limited for over a year and Ubisoft is making cuts where it can. They no longer seem keen on taking a chance with new games that could end up costing the company greatly, especially after the failure of Skull and Bones in recent months.
