Starcraft-Inspired Stormgate RTS Game will be Free to Try on February 5

With Blizzard Activision seemingly putting their classic RTS games Starcraft and Warcraft to bed, there has been a gap in the market for some years for a real-time strategy game that follows the popular format those games offered.

It is clear that Stormgate is heavily inspired by Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3, two major titles in the RTS world. Developers Frost Giant Studios seem to have melded the two ABK titles together.

Steam users will be able to get hands-on with Stormgate on February 5, free of charge, As part of the Steam Next Fest event.

Stormgate is a Crowd Funded game that raised an eye-watering $1.8m in backer funding through Kickstarter.

Players will be able to test out a couple of the games modes during the Steam Next Fest beta including 1v1 and 3-player co-op vs AI modes. To participate you can head over to the Stormgate Steam page to gain access when the beta is available.

To celebrate the launch of the highly-anticipated RTS Beta, Stormgate has teamed up with Elite Gaming Channel (EGC) to create it's first-ever prize tournament open to the public with a $10,000 prize pool.

As keen fans of both Starcraft and Warcraft we are very excited to try this RTS out when the beta launches next month, not sure we'll be winning any $10,000 prize pools though.
