COD Zombies: Shi No Numa Reborn

Call of Duty: Vanguard is getting its first round-based zombies map. The only problem is we've seen it 7 times before. So what could be new?

Shi No Numa Reborn

Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune launches on June 22nd for Warzone and Vanguard. Along with it comes a new map for Warzone called Fortune’s Keep, a revamp of Caldera and multiplayer content. Along with the season 4 update comes the classic zombies map Shi No Numa… again. At this stage we have seen Shi No Numa in many Call of Duty games, first seen in Call of Duty: World at War in 2008 in map pack 2 sandwiched between the releases of Verrückt and Der Riese.

Shi No Numa, translated to Swamp of Death, is set in a Japanese swamp surrounded by dense jungle during World War II. The map introduced us to what would become the fan favourite characters for years to come. Edward Richtofen, Nikolai Belinski, “Tank” Dempsey and Takeo Maski. This map was also our first interaction with special zombie rounds. Hellhounds would appear every 4-5 rounds that once defeated would drop a max ammo power-up. We also got to mess around with the Wunderwaffle DG-2, an electrified lightening gun that would chain lightening bolts through up to 10 zombies at a time, frying them to their second death.

“team is focusing its efforts on the groundwork required to bring round-based Zombies to Vanguard.”

The map became extremely popular, so much so in fact it returned in Call of Duty: Black Ops as a pre-order bonus for the Prestige and Hardened editions of the game, Call of Duty: Zombies the mobile game, Call of Duty: Online which was the now shut down Chinese version of the franchise, the remaster for Black Ops 3 within Zombies Chronicles and finally Call of Duty: Mobile. Making its arrival in Call of Duty: Vanguard its 7th appearance!

“Vanguard’s next Zombies map will be a reimagining of the full scope of Shi No Numa.”

What we do know is that it’ll be a round-based map as seen in previous COD Zombies rather than the objective based portal jumping we've been getting throughout Vanguard so far. A large portion of Shi No Numa can already be played in Vanguard in fact within Der Anfang but only allowed players to explore the main central hut of the map. It will include round-wave spawning systems, fast travel mechanic, door buys, wall weapons, and much more. It will also feature a brand-new Main Easter Egg quest, areas, Wonder Weapon, Flogger trap, Pack-a-Punch, and more to be revealed at a later date.

Shi No Numa along with the rest of the upcoming content arrives June 22nd alongside Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune. All of the content coming is completely free to all players.
